About

I originally created this blog just to post trip reports of my favorite hikes. I didn't intend strangers on the internet to use it as a resource, but I decided to make it public because a lot of the other hiking websites are either outdated, overly cluttered, or cost money to use. I try my best to post accurate directions and pin the Google map coordinates in all the right places.

I don’t include a whole lot of pertinent safety information. If you're new to hiking, I highly recommend finding a local hiking group so that you can learn the ropes. Hiking can be a dangerous hobby, even for people who know what they’re doing. People die every year in the mountains of California. The most common causes are hypothermia, exposure and accidental falls. The weather in the mountains of Southern California is extremely unpredictable. The seven most important pieces of hiking advice that I can give you are these: (1) Know the appropriate amount of water to bring on every hike. (2) Always let a friend or family member know where you’re hiking. (3) Don’t forget to pack a waterproof jacket for the mountain hikes. (4) Bring a flashlight or a headlamp with fresh batteries on every hike. (5) Always stay on the trail (6) Always pack out your trash (7) Bring a cell phone and make sure that it's fully charged and set to airplane mode so it won't search for a signal the whole time and die on you.

And last but not least, if you are a 76 year old blind man with numerous health issues, maybe you should bring a buddy with you when you head out for a hike in Joshua Tree National Park.
